About FESD

Welcome to the Fortuna Elementary School District!

We are very excited to be a new elementary district serving the students and families of Fortuna. The Fortuna Elementary School District (FESD) was born on July 1, 2012, as a result of the consolidation of the Rohnerville Elementary District and the Fortuna Union Elementary District. The consolidation allows us to offer parental choice to parents of students from TK through 8th grade at our four schools: Ambrosini Elementary (TK-4th), South Fortuna Elementary (TK-4th), Fortuna Middle School (5th -8th), and Toddy Thomas Middle School(5th-8th).

Our highly qualified teachers and staff at each school provide enriched learning opportunities for all students. Early release Wednesdays and four full day Staff Development days during the school year allows all teachers time to come together to assess student data and modify their instruction to meet the needs of individual students so that all students can reach proficiency. We are also fortunate to be able to continue to offer music instruction and library services at all four schools despite the severe cuts to state education funding. The FESD Board recognizes that such programs are an important part of a well rounded education for all students.

Following successful bond measures, many improvements have been made to the modernization of most schools in the district. Toddy Thomas and Norman G. Ambrosinirecently completed construction projects aimed at completely renovating and improving the facilities at both schools. Improvements include modernization to all classrooms, health and safety upgrades to all buildings, ADA compliance, upgrade of school crosswalks and improved traffic access to both schools. The projects also include installation of new hardware for Internet data, phone systems and infrastructure. Classroom technology capabilities were enhanced as well as new teacher work stations.

Fortuna Middle School is a brand new facility including a new regulation size gymnasium and a new library/media center. Libraries in all the schools of the district will notice substantial renovations as well.

All four schools offer EXCEL after-school programs. The EXCEL programs provide opportunities for students to receive additional academic support, participate in sports, and “club” activities such as cooking and computers.

Sports programs are offered at both Toddy Thomas and Fortuna Middle Schools in soccer, girls and boys basketball, volleyball, track, and cheerleading. Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities.

We welcome volunteers in our schools. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the school principal for more information.
